And, Write Great Fiction: Revision and Self-Editing by James Scott Bell. Write Great Fiction Revision & Self-Editing. There'll be a giveaway of a signed copy of Something Strange and Deadly as well as a signed copy of Throne of Glass! Why I Write Inspirational Fiction . For A Darkness Strange and Lovely! So please, please, PLEASE stop by on Monday and help spread the word! Self-editing is a mandatory skill that writers must learn before they can publish. When someone gave me Revision and Self-Editing as a Christmas gift, I anticipated more of the same: hands-on instruction on a subject that befuddles all writers at one time or another. It ranks higher than “Revision and Self Editing” (published by Writer's Digest Books), and usually just below the amazon page for “Self Editing for Fiction Writers” (the classic in this field for some 30 years). There are two books I think are immensely helpful in this process: Self-editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King. Dynamic Characters by Nancy Kress. I'm thinking I need to re-read these. The blog ties into my Make Your Book a Movie website, which offers adaptation Show the reader that you understand the world he/she works in—where a good book is not enough. It to be new information, rather than a word-for-word reprint of all those great articles I read (and, although I haven't read his companion book Plot and Structure, I've heard that much of Revision and Self-Editing is also a repeat its information). Writing Toolbox for Beginners Immediate Fiction by Jerry Cleaver Plot and Structure by James Scott Bell How to Think Sideways by Holly Lisle The Story Within. These are great books that help you turn that um crappy I'm also a fan of the Write Great fiction series (by various authors) where each book is devoted to one particular aspect (like dialogue or plot). So here they are, Seven Steps to Writing Great Fiction. Plot and Structure & Revision And Self-Editing by James Scott Bell. I'll go with Self Editing For Fiction Writers, by Renni Browne and Dave King, and Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maass. No piece of writing is complete without submitting it to the scrutiny of revision. I'd been looking forward to reading Revision & Self-Editing by James Scott Bell for quite some time.
